A player at the Stake.com sportsbook celebrated on Wednesday after winning $52,000 on a World Cup bet.

Japan's 2-1 win over Germany at the World Cup 2022 gave the lucky player a big win after he placed a $1,000 bet earlier in the game.

Japan were losing 0-1 when the soccer fan placed his bet.

Germany looked likely to win when Ilkay Gundogan scored the first goal of the game from the penalty spot.

The soccer fan did not think the match was over, however, and placed a $1,000 bet on Japan to fight back and win at odds of 52/1.

The closing stages of the game saw Ritsu Doan score the equaliser 15 minutes from time.

Fellow substitute Takuma Asano then completed the comeback for Japan when he scored the winner eight minutes from time.

When that shot hit the back of the net it was not just the Japanese fans who were celebrating!
