New England Patriots Form

New England made it to the playoffs in Mac Jones’ rookie season thanks to a 10-7 record in the NFC East.

The Patriots started the season slowly by losing three of their first five games as the offense stalled, but an overtime defeat to Dallas proved to be a turning point for that unit.

They put up a season-best 29 points in the loss and grew from there as they responded to that loss with a seven-game win streak.

New England recorded a big 27-24 win at the Los Angeles Chargers and then registered two huge wins at the back end to that streak.

They blew out Tennessee 38-13 at home before heading out on the road and upset Buffalo 14-10.

The Patriots failed to build on those victories though, winning just one of their final four regular season games.

They still made it to the playoffs despite that loss, but they fell at the first hurdle as they were crushed 47-17 by Buffalo.

Defensively, the Patriots ranked #3 in the league in points allowed per game #7 yards allowed per game.

However, that unit has been weakened by the departures of several players.

Miami Dolphins Form

Miami finished the 2021 regular season with a winning record, but 9-8 was not enough to make it to the postseason.

The Dolphins beat New England in their season-opener, but that was as good as it got through the first eight weeks.

They went on to lose their next seven games and that left them needing to win out to have any shot of making the postseason.

Miami almost pulled off that miracle run, winning eight of their final nine games on the back of an impressive defensive effort.

They signed off with a 33-24 win against New England to complete the season sweep of their NFC East rivals, but the blow-out loss to Tennessee a week earlier proved to be their downfall.

The Dolphins responded to the heart-breaking end to their run by making some high-profile changes on and off the field.

They appointed Mike McDaniel as head coach as well as several players.

McDaniel will be tasked with taking QB Tua Tagovailoa to the next level after he went 263/388 for 2,653 yards, 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Defensively Miami had some big games last season, but ended the regular season in the middle of the pack in yards and points allowed per game.
