The main event of UFC 289 sees Amanda Nunes defend her UFC women’s bantamweight title against Irene Aldana.

Nunes regained the bantamweight title from Julianna Pena last year, becoming a two-weight world champion for the second time in her UFC career.

Nunes was scheduled set to defend her title for the first time against the former title-holder in a trilogy fight at UFC 289, only for the former champion to withdraw from the card after sustaining broken ribs during her pre-fight training camp.

Aldana was quickly named as her replacement for this main event showdown.

Irene Aldana has bounced back from a decision defeat to former champion Holly Holm by stopping both Yana Kunitskaya and Macy Chiasson via strikes in her last two fights.

She is now looking to win three fights in a row. Should she be able to do it, she will record the biggest win of her career so far.

Nunes, meanwhile, will be targeting a win herself as she looks to keep hold of the title she regained nearly a year ago.

With another win this weekend, she will continue to cement her status as the greatest female fighter of all time.
