The group stages started on May 12 with teams drawn into two groups of eight teams. Group A, featuring hosts Finland, are based in Tampere while Group B, featuring Latvia, will play in Riga.

The top four teams from each group move into the knockout stage.

The group stage round robin takes place through to May 23.

The quarter-finals take place on May 25, followed by the semi-finals on May 27.

The IIHF World Championship final is scheduled to take place on May 28, along with the third place play-off.

The 16 countries participating in the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships are:

Russia and Belarus have been excluded.

Finland are both hosts and defending champions after winning the title in 2022 on home ice.

The teams are divided into two groups of eight:

Group A: Finland, United States, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, France, Austria and Hungary

Group B: Canada, Czechia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Latvia, Norway, Kazakhstan and Slovenia
